Klarity Cushions™ are customized molds that provide secure, personalized support for patients. These cushions are made from low-density thermoplastic-based materials that become soft and pliable when heated in an oven or water bath. After heating, Klarity Cushions™ offer warm and comforting support that has a calming effect on most patients. Once cool, Klarity Cushions™ become firm and rigid, ensuring excellent reproducibility and precise placement for highly accurate treatment.

Klarity Cushions™ are typically used under the head for cranio-spinal positioning, yet they are equally helpful for extremity positioning and to provide customized positioning support for unique situations. For head and neck positioning, Klarity Cushions™ can be used with Silverman headrests, and they also fit under a thermoplastic mask to create 360-degree custom support and immobilization. Klarity Cushions™ with a Neck Insert can be used without a Silverman headrest, enabling optimal cervical spine support and immobilization.

The inner cushion contains a proprietary mix of high-quality, lightweight filling surrounded by a thin layer of thermoplastic. The soft and stretchable outer covering is made of simple nylon fabric. All Klarity Cushions™ are 100% nontoxic, with minimal shrinkage and no odor. Klarity Cushions™ are one-per-patient, but they can be reheated and reformed if needed.

Klarity Cushions™ are heat-activated, rather than water-activated. They can be prepared in an oven (preferred) or a waterbath (head-cushions only).

To prepare in an oven, remove the cushions from the plastic pouch and place directly on the oven rack at 165˚F until soft and easily pliable, 10-12 minutes.

To prepare in a waterbath, leave the cushion in the plastic pouch and place in the waterbath at 165˚F for 2-3 minutes per side.

When the cushion is ready, it will feel soft and squishy, kind of like a marshmallow. You have 3-5 minutes of active working time, and the cushion will be completely rigid in 5-7 minutes.
