Our History
Our technical expertise dates back to the 1960's, when Dr. Lester M. Larson served as a research chemist at the Dupont Company in Wilmington, Delaware. While there, he created the world's first thermoplastic splints in collaboration with Occupational Therapist Dorothy Kester, O.T.R. Dr. Larson refined and published this work at the US National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Maryland in 1967.
Dr. Larson authored 10 US and Canadian patents regarding splinting materials and initiated the development of Prenyl™ and Orthoplast™, the world's first commercially successful thermoplastic splinting materials. His work provided the foundation for all of today's low-temperature thermoplastic splinting materials.
Dr. Larson and his son, Peter Larson, founded Larson Medical Products in Columbus, Ohio in 1989. During the 1990’s the company produced a variety of precision medical thermoplastics.
In 2000, Larson Medical Products began a collaboration with Dr. Deren Zhan of Guangzhou, China. Dr. Zhan’s expertise and vision enabled technical advancements, new products and the development of modernized manufacturing technology through Klarity Medical and Equipment Co. LTD in Guangzhou. To honor the partnership between the two companies, Larson Medical Products Inc. became Klarity Medical Products LLC in 2012, providing a single marketing vision for all Klarity products.
Today, Klarity is a world leader in manufacturing and developing thermoplastics and positioning devices for radiation therapy, rehabilitation and occupational therapy, orthopedics, and other specialties.
The name Klarity® symbolizes our dedication to technological advancement and excellence. We are committed to serving the world with the highest quality medical thermoplastics and positioning devices, honoring our shared goal of improving patient care.
